Philippine Forest Turtle
Siebenrockiella leytensis
The Philippine forest turtle is a freshwater turtle endemic to the Palawan island group, despite its historical Leyte name. It has a brown oval shell, a broad head and a pale band behind the head. It uses slow forest streams and sheltered banks, and is maintained by conservation and specialist turtle facilities with clean water, ample cover and land access. Females lay eggs. Philippine protection and CITES trade controls apply; a claimed Leyte origin should not be treated as reliable provenance.
