Peninsula Cooter
Pseudemys peninsularis
The peninsula cooter is an egg-laying freshwater turtle native to Florida. Its large oval shell bears pale curved markings, while fine yellow stripes cross the dark head and neck. It is distinct from both the Florida red-bellied cooter and the river cooter. It occurs in specialist turtle collections, where its adult size calls for extensive swimming space, filtration, dry basking areas and suitable nesting ground. Native freshwater turtles can be subject to local collection and possession rules.
