Peach-Throated Monitor
Varanus jobiensis
The peach-throated monitor inhabits New Guinea and nearby islands, using forests and climbing trees. Its dark spotted body, long tail and pale peach to orange throat distinguish it from other Pacific monitors. It is maintained and bred in specialist collections and zoos. Captive housing provides substantial climbing and floor space, deep nesting substrate, humid retreats, water and a range of basking temperatures, with an animal-based diet.
Females lay eggs. Older captive accounts used Varanus karlschmidti; international trade is regulated under CITES Appendix II.
