Crossbred
A crossbred painted conure is a Pyrrhura picta-type bird with known mixed ancestry, usually involving different captive lines, subspecies, or another closely related Pyrrhura conure. Painted conures, also called painted parakeets, are small green South American parrots with a dark scaled head, pale ear area, reddish-brown belly markings, and a long maroon tail. The name has been used around a taxonomically complicated group, so crossbred records are important when a bird might have heritage from rose-fronted or other Pyrrhura forms once associated with the complex.
In aviculture, crossbred painted conures can be ordinary companion birds, but they are not suitable for conservation-minded or subspecies-pure breeding programs. Pairing plans should consider size, temperament, and verified parentage rather than color alone, since many look broadly green at a glance. Care calls for flight space, daily social contact, chewing material, bathing opportunities, and a varied small-parrot diet with vegetables, pellets, and limited richer foods. Any hybrid or uncertain background should be disclosed to buyers and rescues.
