Otago Skink
Oligosoma otagense
The Otago skink lives among rock outcrops in New Zealand's Otago region. Its glossy dark body has contrasting yellowish patches and stripes, with a long tail and well-developed legs. It is maintained and bred in managed conservation collections. Captive management follows species-specific husbandry guidance and maintains parentage and origin records; secure habitats with rocky shelter are central to recovery work.
Females give birth to live young. It is protected under New Zealand wildlife law, and holding animals requires appropriate authority.
