Ornate Day Gecko
Phelsuma ornata
The ornate day gecko is native to Mauritius and nearby offshore islands. A patterned head, dark facial markings, pale speckling and variable blue-green coloration distinguish it from plainer green day geckos. It climbs vegetation and is kept and bred by day-gecko specialists. A bright, ventilated planted enclosure uses branches or bamboo, basking opportunities and sheltered cover, with insect food, suitable fruit-based foods and drinking droplets.
Females lay eggs that adhere to protected surfaces. International trade is regulated under CITES Appendix II.
