Ocellated Spinytail
Uromastyx ocellata
The ocellated spinytail lives in rocky, sparsely vegetated country in northeastern Africa and the Horn of Africa. Adults have a stout body, pale eye-like dorsal markings and a thick tail ringed with spines; males can develop blue-green coloration. It is maintained and bred in specialist collections.
Captive Uromastyx housing provides bright light, UVB, strong basking heat, cooler shaded retreats and secure rock or burrow shelters, with a diet based on plant foods. Females lay eggs. Uromastyx ornata is a separate species.
