Ocellated Lizard
Timon lepidus
The ocellated lizard inhabits sunny scrub, woodland edges and rocky country in southwestern Europe. Adults have a green, dark-patterned back and conspicuous blue spots along the flanks, with a large head and strong clawed feet. Also called the jewelled lizard, it is kept and bred in specialist collections.
Its size and activity call for generous ground space, climbing structure, sunny basking opportunities and sheltered cooler retreats, with insects as a major food. Females lay eggs. Timon nevadensis is a separate species.
