Oblong Turtle
Chelodina oblonga
The oblong turtle is a long-necked freshwater turtle of southwestern Western Australia. Its dark elongated shell and slender neck distinguish it from short-necked pond turtles, and the neck folds sideways beneath the shell. Chelodina colliei is an older name for this species; northern Australian long-necked turtles have a different identity. Specialist collections provide swimming water, sheltered resting places and accessible dry land. Females leave the water to bury their eggs.
