Nose-Horned Viper
Vipera ammodytes
The nose-horned viper is a live-bearing viper of southeastern Europe and adjoining western Asia. A soft raised horn on the snout, broad head and dark dorsal zigzag distinguish typical adults; ground color varies naturally. It is maintained in specialist zoological collections. Housing needs secure retreats and a controlled thermal gradient suited to its rocky, often dry habitat. Its venom is medically significant, and dangerous-animal licensing can apply.
