Northern Pilbara Rock Monitor
Varanus pilbarensis
The northern Pilbara rock monitor is a slender rock-dwelling monitor from the Pilbara region of Western Australia. Its reddish-brown body has rows of dark-edged pale spots, and the long tail is strongly banded. It is maintained and bred by dwarf-monitor specialists. Captive housing offers climbing branches, stable rockwork, cork retreats, a strong basking area and cooler shade, with insect prey and suitable nesting substrate.
Females lay eggs. It is distinct from Varanus hamersleyensis; international trade is regulated under CITES Appendix II.
