Pilbara Banded Knob-Tailed Gecko
Nephrurus cinctus
The Pilbara banded knob-tailed gecko is a nocturnal ground gecko from Western Australia. Five dark bands cross a dull reddish-brown ground from nape to tail. Its separate neck and shoulder bands and usually unmarked snout contrast with Wheeler's knob-tailed gecko, which has four bands, a joined collar and dark snout markings.
Formerly a form of Nephrurus wheeleri, it is bred by specialists and zoos. Housing uses sand, warm and cool retreats, insects and a sheltered moist nesting area. Females lay eggs, usually in pairs. Its short tail ends in a knob.
