North Australian Snake-Necked Turtle
Chelodina rugosa
The North Australian snake-necked turtle is an egg-laying freshwater turtle of northern Australia. A very long neck folds sideways beneath a low oval shell, and webbed limbs support its aquatic life. It is maintained in specialist and zoo collections. Housing needs clean swimming water, easy land access, basking and nesting space, with conditions suited to its tropical origin. Names in the Chelodina rugosa and oblonga group have a complicated history, so older labels need care.
