Neotropical Ameiva
Ameiva ameiva
The neotropical ameiva is an active ground-dwelling lizard of South America, using sunny openings and grassy habitats. Adult males often have brown foreparts, a bright green rear body and pale, dark-edged flank spots. It has been maintained and bred in reptile collections.
Captive housing needs substantial floor space, sheltered retreats, digging substrate, a warm basking area and cooler conditions elsewhere, with water and insect food. Females bury their eggs. Several species once included under Ameiva ameiva are now separate.
