Unclassified Variety
An unclassified-variety neon tetra is a Paracheirodon innesi that has not been assigned to a named aquarium form. It may be a normal farmed neon, a lightly selected line, or a fish whose color does not fit cleanly into labels such as albino, gold, long fin, or wild type. The species itself is the familiar small schooling tetra with an electric blue stripe, red rear body stripe, and clear fins, originally from shaded tributaries of the upper Amazon basin.
In shops, rescues, and hobbyist records, unclassified is a practical label rather than a judgment on quality. Care should follow normal neon tetra needs: stable warm water, low stress, a group of its own kind, fine foods, and peaceful companions. Because color can fade with shipping, age, illness, or poor water, identification is best made after the fish has settled. Breeders wanting predictable traits should track pairings instead of relying on a temporary store description.
