Narrow-Bridged Musk Turtle
Claudius angustatus
The narrow-bridged musk turtle is an egg-laying freshwater turtle from southeastern Mexico and adjoining Central America. It has a low brown shell, unusually small narrow plastron and large head with powerful jaws. Specialist collections maintain it. Housing needs clean accessible water, submerged retreats, easy access to land and nesting space. Its strong bite needs careful husbandry planning, and it is distinct from the larger three-keeled Staurotypus turtles.
