Unclassified Morph
Unclassified morph mimic poison frog refers to Ranitomeya imitator that cannot be confidently matched to a recognized locality morph, even if it has a clear pattern and has bred consistently in captivity. The species occurs in Peru and includes named forms that mimic neighboring poison frogs, with yellow reticulation, orange or red bands, blue legs, green tones, or spotting depending on origin. An unclassified morph may come from old hobby imports, incomplete records, or offspring whose appearance does not settle a locality question.
For keepers, the safest practice is to label these frogs honestly and avoid using them to rebuild or represent named morph lines. They can still be maintained and bred as Ranitomeya imitator if pairings are tracked and offspring are described as unclassified. Husbandry is typical for thumbnail dart frogs. The enclosure should be densely planted, warm, and humid, with clean tadpole sites and microfauna for foraging. Because they are tiny and sensitive to drying, shipping, handling, and enclosure maintenance should be planned more carefully than for larger amphibians.
