Midlands Dwarf Chameleon
Bradypodion thamnobates
The Midlands dwarf chameleon is native to the KwaZulu-Natal Midlands of South Africa. A compact body, raised casque, prominent white throat lobes and enlarged flank scales distinguish it from smoother chameleons. It is kept and bred by chameleon specialists. Housing uses fine climbing branches, dense leafy shelter, good airflow, drinking droplets, insect prey and a pronounced drop in temperature at night; adults are commonly housed separately.
Females give birth to live young. International trade is regulated under CITES Appendix II.
