Mandarin Rat Snake
Euprepiophis mandarinus
The Mandarin rat snake is an egg-laying Asian snake found in forested and other sheltered habitats. Black-edged yellow rings or diamond-like markings stand out on its gray-brown body, and bold stripes mark the head. Specialist hobby collections maintain it. Housing needs secure retreats, ground cover, water and a controlled thermal gradient matched to the animal's origin rather than excessive uniform heat. Older records commonly use Elaphe mandarina.
