Malayan Giant Turtle
Orlitia borneensis
The Malayan giant turtle is a large, egg-laying freshwater turtle from the Malay Peninsula, Sumatra and Borneo. Adults have a broad dark oval shell, heavy head and powerful swimming limbs. It is mainly maintained in zoo and specialist collections. Housing needs substantial filtered water, accessible land, sheltered resting places and nesting space, with conditions suited to its tropical origin. Its adult size makes long-term facilities a central part of husbandry planning.
