Madagascar Day Gecko
Phelsuma madagascariensis
The Madagascar day gecko lives in eastern Madagascar, climbing trees and vegetation. Its green body carries variable red markings, and the dark red facial stripe continues through the eye toward the temple. It is kept and bred by day-gecko specialists. A tall, ventilated enclosure provides bright lighting, UVB, plants and climbing stems, with insect food, fruit-based foods and drinking droplets.
Females lay eggs in sheltered places. It is distinct from the giant day gecko, Phelsuma grandis. International trade is regulated under CITES Appendix II.
