Longnose Leopard Lizard
Gambelia wislizenii
The longnose leopard lizard inhabits arid country in the western United States, hunting among low shrubs and open ground. Its long head, spotted body and lengthy tail distinguish it from the blunter-nosed leopard lizard. It has a long history in specialist collections. Captive housing needs ample secure floor space, a strong basking area with cooler shade, UVB and burrowing substrate. It eats insects and can prey on smaller lizards, so mixed-species housing is unsuitable. Females lay eggs in buried nests.
