Loggerhead Musk Turtle
Sternotherus minor
The loggerhead musk turtle is an egg-laying freshwater turtle from the southeastern United States. A large head and strong jaws contrast with its small oval shell, which may retain a low keel. Specialist hobby and zoo collections maintain it. Housing needs clean accessible water, submerged resting cover, easy land access and nesting space. It is distinct from the eastern musk turtle, and adult identification should consider head and shell characters together.
