Madagascan Speckled Hognose Snake
Leioheterodon geayi
The Madagascan speckled hognose snake is an egg-laying snake native to Madagascar, especially the southwest. Its upturned digging snout and brown body with pale and dark speckling distinguish it from the more uniformly colored blonde hognose. Specialist keepers maintain and breed this ground-using species. Housing needs secure floor space, digging substrate, retreats, water and a controlled thermal gradient. Scientific identity is useful when similar Madagascar hognose trade labels are used.
