Mixed Breed
Mixed breed is an informal label for a king quail whose exact domestic variety or color-line background is not being kept separate. King quail are a small captive quail species, not a dog-style breed group, so this label often means mixed color genetics rather than an unknown species cross. A mixed bird may show wild-type, silver, pied, cinnamon, pearl, white, or intermediate markings, and the chicks may not match either parent neatly.
For owners, the label mainly affects breeding expectations. Mixed king quail can be managed like other healthy king quail, with attention to warm brooder conditions for chicks, escape-proof aviary floors, gentle handling, and protection from damp substrate. Pairs and small groups should be watched for chasing or feather damage because these birds are small but not always passive. If a keeper plans to sell hatching eggs or chicks, plain wording about mixed background is more useful than guessing at a named variety.
