Italian Wall Lizard
Podarcis siculus
The Italian wall lizard inhabits sunny rocky ground, walls, gardens and scrub in Italy and nearby Mediterranean areas, with introduced populations elsewhere. Its green or brown back is variably marked, and the long tail and strong clawed feet suit fast movement over stone.
It occurs in captive lizard collections and research colonies. Housing requires secure ground and climbing space, sunny basking opportunities, sheltered retreats and insect food. Females lay eggs in soil. Older literature commonly used Podarcis sicula for this species.
