Island Day Gecko
Phelsuma nigristriata
The island day gecko is a small tree-dwelling species native to Mayotte. Its green body has red dorsal spots and a dark side stripe. It often shows three black nape stripes and has a gray belly; the nominate striped day gecko instead has a sparsely flecked green nape and white belly.
Specialist keepers breed it in planted vertical enclosures with branches, bamboo, bright light, UVB, drinking droplets, insects and suitable fruit-based foods. Females lay eggs in sheltered sites. Also called the black-striped day gecko, it is Phelsuma nigristriata.
