Imperial Flat Lizard
Platysaurus imperator
The imperial flat lizard comes from rocky savanna areas of northeastern Zimbabwe and Mozambique. Its flattened body lets it slip into narrow cracks. Adult males are brightly colored, while females and young have pale stripes on a darker body. Specialist keepers maintain it with closely spaced, securely supported rock shelters, basking opportunities and cooler concealed retreats.
It takes arthropod food and lays eggs; captive breeding has been reported. Females of several flat-lizard species look similar, so reliable identity and origin matter.
