Guerreran Spiny-Tailed Iguana
Ctenosaura pectinata
The Guerreran spiny-tailed iguana inhabits rocky hillsides and dry woodland in western Mexico. Its gray to dark body, prominent dorsal crest and whorls of spiny tail scales make it a strong climber. It is maintained in zoos and captive breeding collections. Housing must accommodate a large active iguana with secure climbing structures, warm basking areas and places to retreat; plant foods form an important part of its diet.
Females lay eggs in excavated nests. It differs from the common spiny-tailed iguana, Ctenosaura similis.
