Green Spiny Lizard
Sceloporus malachiticus
The green spiny lizard lives in upland forests of Central America, where it climbs trees and rocks to bask. Adults have strongly keeled scales, with males often showing emerald green backs and blue throat and belly patches. Also called the emerald swift, it is kept and bred in reptile collections. Captive housing uses climbing branches, sheltered retreats, UVB and a basking area, with cooler nighttime conditions and insect food. Females give birth to live young rather than laying shelled eggs.
