False Map Turtle
Graptemys pseudogeographica
The false map turtle is an egg-laying freshwater turtle of the central United States, especially the Mississippi drainage. Its olive-brown shell carries pale map-like lines and a central keel, while a pale curved mark sits behind the eye. It is established in specialist hobby and zoo collections. Housing needs filtered swimming water, accessible basking sites, shelter and nesting land. The Mississippi map turtle is commonly treated as a subspecies within this species.
