Ouachita Map Turtle
Graptemys ouachitensis
The Ouachita map turtle is an egg-laying freshwater turtle of central United States river systems. Its olive-brown shell has fine map-like lines and a raised central keel; pale spots and stripes mark the head. It is established in specialist hobby collections. Housing needs clean swimming water, accessible basking land, retreats and nesting space. Head-marking arrangement helps distinguish it from other map turtles, and females become considerably larger than males.
