Black-Knobbed Map Turtle
Graptemys nigrinoda
The black-knobbed map turtle is an egg-laying freshwater turtle of the Alabama, Tombigbee and Black Warrior river systems in the southeastern United States. Black rounded knobs rise along the shell's central keel, and narrow pale lines mark the head and limbs. Specialist hobby and zoo collections maintain it. Housing needs filtered swimming water, accessible basking sites, shelter and nesting land. Adult females grow substantially larger than males.
