Grand Skink
Oligosoma grande
The grand skink is a large, live-bearing skink native to the rocky grasslands of Otago, New Zealand. A dark body with yellow-green flecks and a long tail help identify it. Managed conservation collections focus on secure rocky shelter, opportunities to bask, suitable food and conditions matched to its seasonal habitat.
It is a threatened native reptile, and New Zealand protection and permit rules govern captive management. It is distinct from the more broadly pale-marked Otago skink; neither should be treated as a routine imported pet.
