Golden Mantella
Mantella aurantiaca
The golden mantella is a small, brightly colored, egg-laying frog of Madagascar's upland wetland margins. Captive animals need cool to moderate conditions, dense planted cover, leaf litter, ventilation and a humidity cycle that avoids stagnant, constantly soaked housing. Feed tiny supplemented insects. Breeding is seasonal and involves terrestrial egg sites followed by access to appropriate water for the tadpoles. Its orange to yellow coloration is natural variation within the species.
