Goffin's Cockatoo
Cacatua goffini
Goffin's cockatoo (Cacatua goffini), also called the Tanimbar corella, is a small white cockatoo native to the Tanimbar Islands of Indonesia. It has a compact body, short crest, pale peach tones near the face, and the expressive beak and feet typical of cockatoos. In the wild it uses forest and cultivated areas, feeding on seeds, fruit, flowers, and plant material. In captivity it is active, clever, and strongly driven to manipulate objects.
This cockatoo is a demanding companion bird despite its smaller size. It needs a large cage or aviary, daily supervised time out, wood and puzzle enrichment, bathing, social contact, and a diet richer than dry seed. Noise, dust, chewing, and separation stress are common reasons birds enter rescue. Breeders and owners should verify captive-bred status and legal paperwork, since wild populations have been affected by trapping and habitat pressure. Good records of hatch date, parentage, health, and behavior help when birds change homes over a long lifespan.
