Giant Asian Pond Turtle
Heosemys grandis
The giant Asian pond turtle is an egg-laying turtle of mainland Southeast Asian wetlands and nearby forest. Adults have a large brown to dark oval shell and a robust head; young animals may have more obvious pale or orange markings. It is maintained by specialist and zoo collections. Housing needs substantial clean water, easy access to sheltered land, basking and nesting space. Its adult size calls for an enclosure planned for a large turtle.
