Geoffroy's Toadhead Turtle
Phrynops geoffroanus
Geoffroy's toadhead turtle is an egg-laying side-necked turtle from South American freshwater habitats. It has a broad flattened head, small chin barbels and a low oval brown shell, with pale and dark markings along the head. Specialist hobby and zoo collections maintain it. Housing needs clean swimming water, sheltered resting places, accessible basking land and a nesting area. The neck folds sideways rather than retracting straight backward.
