Gans' Egg Eater
Dasypeltis gansi
Gans' egg eater is an egg-laying West and Central African snake that uses vegetation and other sheltered habitats. It has a small head and keeled scales, with subdued brown or gray coloration rather than always the bold rhombs of the common egg eater. Specialist keepers need a reliable supply of appropriately sized bird eggs. Housing needs secure climbing structure, retreats, water and a controlled thermal gradient. Scientific identity helps separate similar Dasypeltis species.
