Galah

Eolophus roseicapilla

The Galah, scientifically known as Eolophus roseicapilla, is a distinctive and vibrant member of the cockatoo family, native to Australia. Recognizable by its striking pink and grey plumage, the Galah is often seen in large, noisy flocks across the open plains, woodlands, and urban areas. Their pink face and breast contrast sharply with their grey wings and back, while a white crest and underbelly add to their unique appearance. Known for their playful and sociable nature, Galahs are highly intelligent birds with excellent problem-solving abilities. They exhibit strong pair bonds and are often observed engaging in social activities like allopreening. As adaptable as they are charismatic, Galahs have adjusted well to human-altered landscapes, which sometimes brings them into conflict with agriculture. Despite this, they remain a popular species among birdwatchers and are sometimes kept as pets due to their ability to mimic sounds and their engaging personalities.
