Freshwater Crocodile
Crocodylus johnstoni
The freshwater crocodile is an egg-laying crocodilian of northern Australian rivers, billabongs and related habitats. Its narrow snout and generally smaller build distinguish it from the saltwater crocodile. Zoo and specialist collections maintain it. Housing needs substantial freshwater, land, secure barriers and professional management, with native-wildlife and crocodilian permits where required. The accepted scientific spelling is Crocodylus johnstoni; johnsoni appears in older records.
