Five-Keeled Spiny-Tailed Iguana
Ctenosaura quinquecarinata
The five-keeled spiny-tailed iguana is a compact, egg-laying iguana from Central America. A strongly armored tail, including conspicuous longitudinal keels, distinguishes it from the larger common spiny-tailed iguana; adult colors include gray, brown and orange tones. Specialist hobby keepers provide secure ground and climbing space, stable retreats, a basking and light gradient and a varied diet suited to its age.
Its tail remains a defense tool. Use scientific identity because small Ctenosaura can be confused under generic spiny-tail trade names.
