Pin

Pin, often written pin tail or pintail, describes a fancy guppy finnage type rather than a body color. Instead of the broad delta or fan tail seen in many show guppies, the caudal fin narrows into a pointed extension that gives mature males a slim, needle-like tail profile. Pin-tailed guppies may be blue, red, yellow, green, purple, or patterned, so the name should be read as a tail-shape label unless a seller also lists a color strain.

Because the feature depends on fin shape, selection is aimed at a clean central point, balanced dorsal fin, and a body strong enough to carry the tail without clamping. Calm water movement is useful, and tankmates that nip fins should be avoided. Crosses to broader-tailed guppies may improve vigor, but they can also produce mixed tail shapes for several generations. For buyers, young males are worth viewing as they mature, since the final outline may not be obvious in small juveniles.
