False Water Cobra
Hydrodynastes gigas
The false water cobra is a large, active, semi-aquatic South American snake that lays eggs. It can flatten its neck defensively but is not a true cobra; it is rear-fanged and venomous. Captive animals need generous land space, water deep and wide enough to soak in, and frequent water changes because they often foul their water. Its olive-brown body, dark blotches and dark stripe behind the eye distinguish the natural wild-type appearance.
