Menil

The Menil Fallow Deer is a distinct breed within the Fallow Deer species, known for its particularly striking coat and gentle disposition. This breed boasts a unique and eye-catching appearance characterized by a lighter coat color compared to other Fallow Deer, predominantly featuring a tawny base with a pronounced white spotting that gives it an almost speckled or mottled look. During the summer months, the coat becomes even more vibrant with a reddish hue, enhancing the visibility of the white spots. In winter, their coat transforms to a thicker, more subdued gray-brown, still maintaining the delicate spots.

Menil Fallow Deer are medium-sized with elegantly long, slender legs supporting a robust yet graceful body. Males, known as bucks, are distinguished by their spectacular palmated antlers, which can grow quite large and serve as a symbol of vitality and attractiveness during the breeding season.

This breed is typically found in managed parks and estates, having been extensively introduced across Europe for ornamental and hunting purposes. Menil Fallow Deer are known for their sociable nature, often seen in small herds, and their ability to adapt to various environments, allowing them to thrive in both forested and open meadow habitats. Their calm temperament and stunning appearance make them a favorite among deer enthusiasts and contribute significantly to biodiversity in managed wildlife collections.
