European Pond Turtle
Emys orbicularis
The European pond turtle is an egg-laying freshwater turtle found across parts of Europe, North Africa and western Asia. Its dark oval shell, head and limbs commonly carry fine yellow spots or streaks. It is maintained by specialist hobby, zoo and conservation collections. Housing needs clean swimming water, accessible basking land, sheltered retreats and a nesting area with climate matched to the animal's origin. Sicilian Emys trinacris is a separate species.
