European Glass Lizard
Pseudopus apodus
The European glass lizard is a large, egg-laying legless lizard from southeastern Europe through parts of western and central Asia. Eyelids, visible ear openings and a lengthwise skin fold distinguish it from a snake. Adults are usually brown or yellow-brown and have an exceptionally long tail.
Zoo and specialist keepers provide enough ground space to stretch out, digging substrate, shelters and a controlled heat gradient. It eats invertebrates and other small animal foods. Support its body carefully; the tail is not a handle.
