Unknown Variety
An unknown variety electric yellow cichlid is a Labidochromis caeruleus whose variety, strain, or locality background was not recorded. The fish may look like the common yellow lab, a paler white-yellow aquarium line, or another domestic expression, but the label does not prove a special morph. Electric yellows are small Lake Malawi mbuna with compressed bodies, rock-associated habits, and maternal mouthbrooding reproduction; their popularity has led to many generations of captive stock.
Keep an unknown-variety fish as a display animal unless later documentation clarifies its background. Care is the same as for other electric yellows: alkaline Lake Malawi-style water, strong filtration, rocky cover with open swimming space, and measured feeding to prevent digestive trouble common in mbuna. When breeding, separate known lines from unknown-origin fish and label fry honestly so they are not represented as pure locality or selected-strain animals. Temperament is usually manageable, but males still defend territories.
