Mixed Breed

Mixed breed is an informal label for an eclectus parrot whose subspecies or regional background is mixed, undocumented, or simply not known. Eclectus parrots are not separated into breeds in the domestic animal sense; aviculturists usually discuss forms such as Solomon Island, Vosmaeri, red-sided, or other island populations. A mixed bird may still show the classic eclectus split in appearance, with a green male or a red female, and rare mutation colors such as blue or lutino may appear in some captive lines.

Mixed-background eclectus can settle well as companion parrots, but they should not be presented as pure regional stock for breeding or conservation programs. Roomy housing, daily safe exercise, chewable enrichment, and calm handling are important because many eclectus react poorly to rough or unpredictable handling. Diet is especially important; many keepers emphasize fresh plant foods and avoid high-fat seed-heavy feeding. For rescues and buyers, behavior, health history, and current diet matter more than a guessed subspecies name.

Colors: Blue, Lutino, Normal Female Red, Normal Male Green
