Crossbred

A crossbred eclectus parrot is an eclectus whose parents come from different subspecies, regional forms, or captive lines. Eclectus parrots show extreme sexual dimorphism: males are mainly green, while females are red with blue or purple tones depending on origin. The name Eclectus roratus is still widely used in aviculture, although taxonomic treatment of the group has changed in some references. Crossbred birds may blur the size, bill color, tail band, and female color clues used to identify regional types.

These parrots are kept as companions and in breeding collections, but clear parent information is useful because crossbred birds have limited value for programs trying to maintain pure regional forms. Daily care requires space to climb and fly, steady social interaction, foraging work, and a diet rich in fresh vegetables, leafy foods, sprouts, and measured fruit; heavy seed diets are a poor fit. Buyers should not rely only on color labels such as normal green male, red female, blue, or lutino.
